Key facts
- Warm Homes loans of up to £15,000 for solar and £15,000 for a battery
- 0% VAT on solar panels for homes until the end of March 2027
- Almost 150,000 solar installations in the first six months of 2026
What it could save
The government estimates solar, a battery and a heat pump together could save up to £550 a year, or £850 with a time-of-use tariff. Your savings depend on roof direction, usage and tariff.
Funding
- Warm Homes loan: homeowners across the UK.
- Warm Homes: Local Grant: lower-income households in England may get solar fully funded.
Before you buy
- Use an MCS-certified installer. It’s required for the loan.
- Get at least two quotes and check what’s included, such as scaffolding and the inverter.
- Be wary of savings claims that assume high future energy prices.
