Insulation is often the cheapest way to cut heating bills. It isn’t covered by the Warm Homes loan, but grants can pay for it.

Where funding comes from
- Warm Homes: Local Grant: councils can fund loft, cavity, solid wall and floor insulation for eligible households in England.
- ECO4: supplier-funded insulation ends on 31 December 2026. See our ECO4 article.
- Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland: see help in the nations.
What’s not covered
The Warm Homes loan doesn’t fund insulation on its own, or as part of a heat pump installation.
Getting it right
- Use a TrustMark-registered installer. Poor insulation work can cause damp.
- In 2025 the government suspended nearly 40 firms from official insulation schemes for poor-quality work, so check who you’re dealing with.
